Position Summary
Join Sonoco as a Machine Operator II in Hartselle, AL, on the 2nd shift (2p-10p) with a competitive pay rate of $20.95/hour plus $0.75 shift differential. Reporting to the Team Lead, you'll run specialized machinery to cut, machine, and assemble lumber into components for wood reels used in wire and cable packaging. Work in a dynamic, non-temperature-controlled warehouse environment with sawdust and noise—PPE provided for safety and comfort. Ideal for skilled operators ready to thrive in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team to process lumber from raw materials to finished wood reel components using saws, routers, nailers, spindles, scanners, stackers, and conveyors.
- Monitor production, make incremental adjustments, and report quality issues.
- Ensure a safe, clean, organized workspace while adhering to Sonoco's quality and safety policies.
- Troubleshoot issues on the fly, read manufacturing instructions, and assist other departments.
- Lift up to 50 pounds, stand for 8+ hours, and work effectively in a team-oriented, high-volume environment.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of machine operating experience in an industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of personal hand tools for safe operation, adjustment, and maintenance of production equipment.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, ability to work independently or in teams, and manage multiple tasks.
- Working knowledge of product quality standards, reliability, and problem-solving skills.
