Position Summary
Sonoco is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic I for our Charlotte, NC Recycling facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you'll ensure the safety and efficiency of plant equipment on a 1st shift schedule (M-F, 6am-4pm), with potential overtime. Pay ranges from $24.58-$30.03/hour based on experience. Safety is our top priority in this hands-on role focused on maintenance and repairs.
Key Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Mechanic I, you'll troubleshoot and repair equipment, perform preventative maintenance, rebuild presses, and handle changeovers to meet production needs. Responsibilities include evaluating tools for compliance, using CMMS for accurate documentation, collecting data to minimize downtime, and continuously improving skills per the maintenance training matrix. Effective communication, teamwork, and safe operation of hand/power tools are essential. Additional duties may be assigned by your supervisor.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Equipment troubleshooting and adjustments
- Preventative maintenance and rebuilds
- PLC programming (preferred)
- Data collection for operational improvements
Required Qualifications
We'd love to hear from candidates with technical school accreditation or skilled trades program completion and 2-4 years of experience. Proficiency in cutting, welding, grinding, and mechanical systems (motors, controls, prints) is required. You must handle moderately complex issues, lift 10-50 lbs, and demonstrate physical stamina for bending, kneeling, and reaching. Team players with strong direction-following skills and knowledge of precision tools excel here.
