Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Lead multiple distributed runtime engineering teams building language-specific profiling libraries for Java (OpenJDK), Go, Python, and emerging runtimes
• Drive development of eBPF-based profiling capabilities enabling zero-overhead production insights
• Oversee crash tracking and runtime instrumentation features critical for enterprise reliability
• Partner with product managers, designers, and APM teams to prioritize roadmaps and deliver customer value
• Mentor engineering managers and staff engineers, building high-performing teams across time zones
• Ensure runtime integrations maintain production-grade performance and stability at massive scale
• Represent team strategy to Datadog executives and open source communities
• Guide architectural decisions and technical trade-offs in complex observability systems
• Foster innovation in continuous profiling and runtime observability technologies

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed as Datadog's Runtime Engineering Manager, you'll need:

• Proven leadership scaling engineering teams: hiring, coaching, succession planning, distributed team structures
• Experience managing managers/staff engineers in deeply technical runtime/systems domains
• Technical expertise in runtimes: JVM/OpenJDK, Go, CPython, Rust, LLVM or equivalent
• Executive communication skills (English) for strategy presentations and community engagement
• Architectural review capability to guide complex observability product decisions
• Customer empathy translating developer pain into runtime observability solutions
