Role Overview

The Manager, Lab Operations position at Gilead Sciences in Foster City, California, is a pivotal leadership role within our cutting-edge research and development operations. Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will drive laboratory excellence through hands-on management and strategic oversight. Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing daily laboratory operations while ensuring full compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
• Leading preparations for inspections, audits, internal walkthroughs, and coordinating with Facilities, EHS, IT, and other departments to resolve issues swiftly.
• Creating and managing SPARC tickets for lab moves, equipment support, facility issues, and routine requests.
• Managing inventory and procurement to maintain optimal supplies for lab activities.
• Ensuring proper maintenance and calibration of specialized equipment like bioreactors, cell counters, metabolite analyzers, solution mixers, chromatography skids, pump systems, and endotoxin analyzers.
• Collaborating with scientific lab leads to develop policies and procedures that boost efficiency and productivity.
• Supporting equipment onboarding and identifying operational bottlenecks, implementing lean, 5S, or digital solutions.
• Participating in cross-functional meetings and projects to share knowledge and best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

Gilead seeks candidates with a strong foundation in lab operations and leadership. Basic qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree with 4+ years; OR PhD with any experience.

Preferred qualifications encompass:

• Proven experience in laboratory operations, particularly with upstream and downstream equipment like SU Bioreactors, Akta systems, and TFF.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
• Strong organizational, planning, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in cross-site collaboration, project management, and data collection/retrieval.
