Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Distribution, Integrated Supply Management, or Logistics (experience)
  • Strong academic performance (experience)
  • Authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future (experience)
  • Full-time availability (40 hours/week) and on-location presence (experience)
  • Concurrent enrollment in a degree-seeking program throughout the duration of the internship/co-op (experience)
  • Familiarity with procurement policies and procedures (experience)
  • Understanding of category management and contract management processes (experience)
  • Basic knowledge of materials, equipment, and services used in operations (experience)
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports (experience)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (experience)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team (experience)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Marathon Petroleum's procurement, contracts, and materials management policies and procedures.
  • Learn and apply Marathon Petroleum's category management, contract management, and supplier diversity processes in practical scenarios.
  • Acquire detailed knowledge of the materials, equipment, and services essential for the operation of Marathon Petroleum's various components.
  • Actively participate in the purchasing of indirect goods and services, gaining hands-on experience in the procurement process.
  • Collaborate in cross-functional category management activities, contributing to strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Develop expertise in market and spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
  • Prepare and meticulously analyze bid packages to ensure competitive pricing and optimal value.
  • Negotiate contractual terms and address commercial issues to protect Marathon Petroleum's interests and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Complete projects and tasks related to inventory control, transportation, and logistics, enhancing supply chain efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain strong rapport with suppliers, fostering collaborative partnerships and ensuring reliable supply chains.
  • Work closely with Marathon Petroleum's employees and management to understand their needs and provide effective supply chain solutions.
  • Uphold Marathon Petroleum's commitment to high ethical standards, environmental stewardship, and employee safety in all supply chain activities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end supply chain processes within the energy industry
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Contribute to the optimization of inventory levels and transportation routes
  • Participate in supplier performance evaluations and identify areas for improvement
