Position Summary
Sonoco is hiring a Material Handler I for rotating shifts (7am-3pm one week, 3pm-11pm the next) in Forest City, NC. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you'll maintain materials for production workstations in a fast-paced environment. Starting wage: $21.35/hour. Ideal for hands-on professionals with strong safety focus, organization, and team collaboration skills. Excellent attendance is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Guarantee safety for yourself and coworkers while handling materials orderly.
- Label finished products and transport to Finished Goods staging in corrugation.
- Identify products for work orders, verify labels and Production Notes.
- Maintain inventory by delivering supplies; operate pallet jacks and machinery.
- Read work orders for correct materials, colorants, and packaging; perform color changes.
- Multi-task, track counts, climb platforms, vacuum hoppers, and supply workstations.
- Follow FIFO, use correct color buckets (Blue non-food, Yellow food-grade), fill production sheets.
- Maintain cleanliness, housekeeping, SOPs; empty rejects; sign sweep sheets.
- Lift up to 50 lbs multiple times daily; other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Proven record in fast-paced settings with excellent attendance.
- Strong hands-on, analytical, organizational, and detail-oriented skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work rotating shifts, and collaborate with teams.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, PPE usage, and material verification.
- Physical capability: lift 50 lbs, climb platforms, operate equipment safely.
