Position Summary

Sonoco is seeking a Material Handler I for our Tupelo, MS facility. This full-time, on-site role on 1st shift (M-F 7:00am-3:30pm, weekends as needed) pays $19.02/hour. Perform manual and clerical duties in shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and delivering materials, equipment, and supplies. Work under direct supervision, handling basic issues while referring complex ones to higher-level staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Count, weigh, or measure incoming/outgoing items to verify against bills of lading, invoices, or orders.
  • Inspect shipments for damage/shortages and coordinate with shippers for resolution.
  • Complete essential paperwork and shipping forms like bills of lading.
  • Determine optimal shipping methods using knowledge of procedures, routes, and rates.
  • Prepare materials for shipment by weighing, packaging, and stamping.
  • Operate material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dollies.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of experience; beginning to working knowledge of material handling.
  • Strong oral/written communication, clerical skills, and ability to follow directions.
  • Physical ability to lift/move heavy objects and maintain stamina.
