As a Metadata Specialist in our Data Science & Business Intelligence team, you will play a pivotal role in our innovation culture by designing and governing educational metadata that powers K–12 literacy and social studies programs in our digital ecosystem. This remote position, open to U.S. authorized applicants, requires bridging educational expertise with technical precision to drive personalized, data-informed learning. In this role, you will collaborate with curriculum, assessment, data science, and product teams to align metadata with instructional models, content, and personalization features. You will establish metadata quality standards, monitor accuracy across systems, and develop structured models and automated tagging workflows to boost discoverability and analytics. By researching emerging practices like CASE and 1EdTech standards, you will ensure interoperability and support algorithmically driven experiences that enhance teaching and student engagement. Your work will directly contribute to McGraw Hill's mission of fostering equitable education through innovative technology. Success demands 5+ years in edtech, deep knowledge of CCSS-ELA, NCSS, and learning progressions, plus hands-on metadata experience. Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with K–12 literacy and social studies curriculum, product, and data science teams to understand metadata needs and align with instructional models, content, and personalization features
• Establish and support metadata quality and its consistent, reliable use across a range of content types
• Monitor data completeness and accuracy across platforms and systems
• Develop, test, and refine structured metadata models and automated tagging workflows to enhance discoverability, personalization, and data analytics
• Research and apply existing and emerging metadata practices and interoperability models used across educational technology
• Develop and maintain clear documentation for metadata models, governance processes, and usage guidelines
• Ensure metadata structures support instructional and assessment alignment, personalization, and learning analytics
• Bridge educational and technical perspectives to maintain metadata quality and implement consistent taxonomies and tagging standards
• Contribute to data-informed and algorithmically driven learning experiences that enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement
• Support the design, organization, and governance of educational metadata for McGraw Hill’s K–12 literacy and social studies programs

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years in education or educational technology
• 3+ years designing or managing K–12 literacy and social studies standards and related content
• Strong understanding of K–12 instructional frameworks, learning progressions, and state/national standards such as CCSS-ELA and NCSS
• Hands-on experience with content-metadata tagging, metadata modeling, taxonomy design, and/or educational data systems
• Experience using tools like spreadsheets, databases, or scripting/query languages
• Skills in analyzing and organizing complex educational data, ensuring metadata quality and alignment across platforms
• Authorized to work for any employer within the United States

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with metadata standards (e.g., CASE, 1EdTech)
• Experience with LMS integrations and AI-assisted learning tools
• Proficiency with collaboration platforms such as JIRA, Confluence, and Teams
• Background in data science or business intelligence within edtech
• Knowledge of emerging metadata practices and interoperability models in educational technology
