Headquartered in the United States, Gilead operates globally, ensuring access to life-changing medicines. With a commitment to collaboration, determination, and bold ambitions, Gilead's team drives scientific innovations that improve patient lives across generations.

Role Overview

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Northern Los Angeles position is a field-based opportunity within Gilead's US Medical Affairs team, focusing on HIV Treatment and Prevention. This role covers Northern Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Central California, and Hawaii, reporting to the USMA West HIV Field Director. As an MSL, you will serve as a scientific expert, fostering professional relationships with key healthcare decision-makers in public health, academic institutions, and community providers. This is an ideal role for an experienced healthcare professional passionate about advancing HIV care through education, insights, and collaboration.

Key Impact Areas

Your work will align with Gilead's Medical Affairs Plan of Action, delivering timely scientific presentations, gathering field insights, and supporting strategic initiatives in HIV therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, you will engage directly with the medical community to bridge scientific knowledge and clinical practice. Responsibilities include delivering accurate clinical, scientific, and educational presentations to healthcare providers, both proactively and upon request, in full compliance with PhRMA guidelines and FDA regulations. You will develop strategic plans to cultivate relationships with thought leaders, provide competitive intelligence on treatment trends, and participate in advisory boards, speaker training, and conferences.

Collaboration is key: partner with Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, and Marketing teams. Respond to inquiries on marketed and developmental Gilead products, recommend clinical trial sites, and train sales forces. Maintain meticulous documentation, adhere to all pharmaceutical codes and Gilead policies, and travel frequently to meet objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements

Gilead seeks an experienced, results-oriented professional with an advanced degree (PharmD, MD, or PhD preferred) in a relevant scientific discipline. A minimum of 3-5 years in a field medical role, ideally as an MSL in HIV or infectious diseases, is essential. Strong scientific acumen in HIV treatment and prevention, exceptional communication and presentation skills, and the ability to build influential relationships are required. Proficiency in regulatory compliance, strategic planning, and data analysis is critical. Frequent travel (up to 60-70%) within the territory is necessary, along with organizational skills for administrative tasks like expense reports and interaction documentation.

Preferred Experience

Prior work with Phase IV trials, opinion leader engagement, and cross-functional collaboration in biopharma is highly valued.

Benefits & Perks

Gilead offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional success. Enjoy competitive base salary with performance-based incentives, robust health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage, and generous paid time off. Additional perks include retirement plans with company matching, stock purchase programs, tuition reimbursement, and wellness initiatives. Field-based flexibility, cutting-edge tools, and ongoing training ensure you thrive in this role.

Career Growth

At Gilead, career advancement is a priority. As a People Leader pathway role, you will develop leadership skills while accessing mentorship, training programs, and internal mobility opportunities. MSLs often progress to senior field roles, medical directors, or cross-functional leadership in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or Commercial. Gilead's culture empowers employees to evolve, innovate, and lead in the fight against global health challenges.
