The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - South Texas position at Gilead Sciences is a field-based role reporting to the Central USMA Field Director, Liver Disease. This strategic position supports field-facing activities for the US Medical Affairs (USMA) Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), Hepatitis C (HCV), and Hepatitis B (HBV) Plans of Action. As an MSL, you will serve as a scientific expert, bridging Gilead's cutting-edge research with healthcare providers, thought leaders, and key stakeholders in the South Texas region. This role demands a blend of scientific acumen, relationship-building prowess, and business savvy to drive medical strategies that align with Gilead's mission to confront major public health challenges.
In this dynamic role, the MSL will engage in high-impact activities to advance Gilead's liver disease portfolio. Key responsibilities include delivering timely, accurate, and compliant clinical, scientific, and educational presentations to healthcare providers in liver disease, both proactively and upon request. You will develop strategic plans to cultivate relationships with thought leaders, provide field insights on treatment practices and trends to strategy teams, and evaluate promotional speakers. Participation in advisory boards, speaker training, and clinical conferences is essential, alongside collaboration with cross-functional teams in Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Commercial, and Marketing. Additional duties encompass supporting clinical trials, Investigator Sponsored Research, scientific training for sales staff, and managing administrative tasks efficiently.
Proactively interact with healthcare professionals, gathering and sharing insights that inform Gilead's strategic initiatives in PBC, HCV, and HBV.
Build and maintain robust networks with medical thought-leaders, academic institutions, and large group practices in South Texas.
To excel as a Medical Science Liaison at Gilead, candidates must possess a strong scientific foundation and relevant experience. Required qualifications include a BS/BA with 8+ years of experience, MS/MA with 6+ years, or PhD/PharmD with 2+ years, preferably an advanced medical/scientific/clinical degree (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, NP, or PA). A minimum of 3 years in a medically related profession, such as liver disease or antiviral medicine, is essential, with demonstrated knowledge of clinical research processes, treatment landscapes, and professional society guidelines. Clinical practice experience is highly desirable. Candidates should exhibit excellent presentation skills for large audiences, superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication, project management expertise, business acumen, and the ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.
