As a Medical Scientist in Oncology based in Tokyo, Japan, you will play a pivotal role in Gilead's mission to transform cancer treatment. This position involves providing scientific and medical guidance across the product lifecycle, collaborating with Japan Medical Affairs, global teams, and key opinion leaders (KOLs). You will be at the forefront of medical strategies, ensuring therapies reach oncology patients effectively while adhering to the highest compliance standards. This full-time role offers the chance to make a direct impact in a dynamic, patient-centric environment.
Your primary duties will include establishing strong relationships with Oncology KOLs and external stakeholders, positioning yourself as a valued partner in enhancing oncology care quality. You will manage ongoing communications with KOLs and clinical trial investigators, delivering medical insights, background data, and responses to scientific queries. Developing and executing medical activities—such as education programs, data generation, and patient-focused initiatives—in alignment with the Plan of Action (POA) and global priorities is essential. Attending major conferences, coordinating advisory boards, and presenting to external audiences will keep you at the cutting edge. You will maintain deep clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in oncology, manage projects proactively, and ensure all activities comply with corporate guidelines and industry codes.
Close communication with global and Asia Medical Affairs teams, along with other functions, is key. As a potential people leader, you will embody Gilead's values of inclusion, talent development, and team empowerment, contributing to a culture where every voice drives innovation.
Candidates must have at least 3 years of strong industry experience, with hands-on involvement in medical affairs, MSL roles, or R&D, preferably in oncology. An advanced degree such as PhD, PharmD, or MD in life sciences, coupled with clinical and research experience in oncology, is preferred. Exceptional bilingual communication skills in Japanese and English are required, alongside excellent judgment, teamwork, and learning agility. Project management skills and the ability to lead in ambiguous situations are highly valued. All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to compliance and ethical standards.
