A Day in the Life

The Laboratory Technician works with scientists, engineers, and technicians supporting quality control, product support & development testing. The technician will perform sample preparation and analysis as part of a laboratory team. The technician will review, authorize and report results, support document creation and revision, and participate in continuous improvement projects for the lab. The role functions as part of the Analytical Laboratory that works under ISO17025 requirements in the medical device field.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Support sample registration, labeling, traceability, and storage. 

  • Perform sample preparation including:  

  • Sectioning with trim saw and automated mill  

  • Mounting using various medias 

  • Grinding and polishing using Abrapol and Tegramin grinders  

  • Surface etching with acids 

  • Use a microscope as an analysis tool for dimensional measurement and evaluation of surface features 

  • Equipment set up, cleaning, troubleshooting, calibration, and operation 

  • Real time documentation of test protocols and data collection 

  • Author and review laboratory processes 

  • Assist engineers and scientist in equipment and process qualifications 

  • Participate in and or lead continuous improvement projects  

  • Perform general support including preparing chemical solutions and maintaining inventory of consumable supplies 

  • Perform work in adherence to procedures, department policies and regulatory requirements 

 

Basic Qualifications  

  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in technical areas such as in metallurgical, electronic, mechanical or related technical discipline. 

  • Good written and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with clients, laboratory personnel, and other functions 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel 

  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced team environment 

  • Ability to prioritize and execute on daily tasks 

  • Ability to work and be effective with minimal supervision 

 
Desired/Preferred Qualifications 

A successful candidate will have experience working in a laboratory setting.  Preferred qualifications include:  

  • 2-year technical degree in metallurgical, electronic, mechanical or related technical discipline. 

  • Experience working in and documenting experiments in a highly regulated environment. 

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) 

  • Experience with continuous improvement tools such as, Lean Sigma or Six Sigma. 

  • Experience and understanding of cGMP, ISO17025, FDA and ICH requirements.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$42,400.00 - $63,600.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Operations Incentive Plan (OIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
