A Day in the Life

The Principal Software Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager and plays a key role within the R&D Engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and support of software for medical devices. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Hardware, Software, Project Management, and Quality & Regulatory and may also involve interaction with clinicians, third-party vendors, and manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Participates, as a member of software project or sub-project team(s), in the development of software applications for product / test tools.
• Adheres to defined development plans, guidelines, and procedures.
• Generates high-quality work products.
• Translates requirements/specifications into design, and ultimately software.
• Participates in requirements, design and code reviews as they pertain to software designs.
• Participates in other activities, such as performing hazard and risk analysis, reviews of designs and tests, etc.
• Functions well in a team environment.
• Demonstrates good coding practices.

Required knowledge and experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree and with 12 to 18 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree and with 10 to 16 years of relevant experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail, with ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to build consensus and establish common goals.   
• Hands Experience on Python, C++ 11 and C++ 14 programming.
• Hands-on experience on Google test tool for unit testing and Coverity for static analysis.
• Hands-on experience of operating systems like VXWORKS/QNX 7 and Linux.
• Knowledge in cyber security software development.  
• Experience in tools like JAMA, STASH/BITBUCKET/GIT/JIRA/CONFLUENCE/BAMBOO.
• Good knowledge of agile principles and good experience in working in agile environment.
• Embedded application development and unit testing experience is required.
• Should be familiar with X86 and ARM microprocessor architectures.
• Good understanding of multithreading in both design and implementation.
• Experience with projects that require hardware /software interfacing.
• Medical instruments development experience is preferable.
• Experience with documented software development processes or familiarity with FDA and ISO standards like IEC 62304 is a plus
• Good communication skills.
• Good team player.
• Continue to focus on improvements and bring value to the customers.
