A Day in the Life

Our Global Diabetes Capability Center in Pune is expanding to serve more people living with diabetes globally. Our state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to transforming diabetes management through innovative solutions and technologies that reduce the burden of living with diabetes. We’re a mission-driven leader in medical technology and solutions with a legacy of integrity and innovation, join our new Minimed India Hub as a Sr. Data Scientist. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented data scientist to join the Transformation team. This pivotal role is crucial for driving innovation and transforming our commercial operations by leveraging cutting-edge data science and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.

This role offers a dynamic opportunity to join Medtronic's Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. While you will start your employment with Medtronic, upon establishment of SpinCo or the transition of the Diabetes business to another company, your employment may transfer to either SpinCo or the other company, at Medtronic's discretion and subject to any applicable information and consultation requirements in your jurisdiction.

Job Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: 

• Model Design & Development
  • Design, develop, and implement statistical models, machine learning /deep learning algorithms and AI techniques to solve complex business problems and drive commercial excellence (e.g.: sales data, patient data, CRM data, etc.,.).
  • Translate model results into actionable insights to support business objectives.
• Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams (e.g.: Finance, Marketing, IT, Sales, etc.,.) to understand business problems and ensure deliverables are highly aligned with commercial requirements.
  • Document and communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Model Evaluation & Deployment & Monitoring
  • Optimize and fine-tune machine learning/LLM models for performance and accuracy.
  • Use software design principles to develop production ready code and deploy in production environments.
  • Keep tracking and continuously monitor model performance.
• Continuous Innovation
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science.
  • Evaluate new technologies that have opportunities to bring new values to the company and apply to projects.
  • Mentor and guide other junior data scientists.

  Required Knowledge and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of industry experience of applying data science, AI, and advanced analytics to real-world business problems.
• 5+years of experience and strong proficiency in Python and popular data science ecosystem such as Spark MLlib, Keras, PyTorch, HuggingFace Transformers, scikit-learn, spacy, etc..
• 5+years of experience and strong proficiency with SQL and data manipulation in various database environments
• Solid understanding of diverse machine learning algorithms: regression, classification, clustering, time series, NLP, deep learning
• 3+ years of experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

• 1+ years of experience in utilizing GenAI techniques such as LLMs for complex business problems. Familiar with prompt engineering and optimization techniques for generative AI models.
• Solid knowledge of software engineering best practices (version control, CI/CD, code reviews)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
• Industry Experience with MLOps practices and tools for model deployment, monitoring, and maintenance in production environments
• Demonstrated expertise in fine-tuning and deploying large language models (LLMs) for enterprise applications
• Proficient with vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques for enhancing LLM performance
• Proficient with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable ML solutions
• Track record of leading cross-functional data science projects that delivered measurable business impact
• Contributions to open-source projects, research publications, or patents in relevant fields
• Experience mentoring junior data scientists and providing technical leadership
• Knowledge of data privacy/security best practices, and relevant regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
