Job Description
At Meta Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Product Design Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing hardware systems for AR and VR, or New Technology Initiatives. You will become part of a team exploring developing concepts through prototyping and into mass-production consumer electronics. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains other than mechanical engineering. Our ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, CAD fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience designing consumer electronics. This role is field personnel.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Optics Engineering or equivalent industry experience 2+ years of product design and development experience of high volume consumer electronics, including complex subsystems and/or full systems ownership Experience performing and designing DOEs, data analysis, SPC control, Gauge R&R, root cause investigation, failure analysis, and implementing corrective action Experience leading communications with cross-functional partners, fluent English Working knowledge in material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive Testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, etc.) Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.) Experience with NX CAD Experience designing and shipping products with Asia-based supply chain Experience developing active alignment processes and equipment to optimize optical parameters such as MTF, boresight, uniformity, etc Track-record of delivering high volume products to the market (experience, 2 years)
Responsibilities
- Contribute to mechanical solutions as part of a highly cross-functional team Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems while working with cross functional technical teams Design for Manufacturability - Ensure the design is robust and the equipment, process and materials are scalable to ramp Conceptualize and design new prototype optical systems and components such as: imaging optics, illumination systems, geometric or physical optics, and projector design Specify and design custom metrology and measurement systems Plan and perform characterization and system performance testing Collaborate with internal cross functional teams and external industry partners
