Job Description

The Azure Fiber team in Romsey, Hampshire, is seeking dynamic candidates with energy and a passion for innovation to join our team. You will be working on fabrication technologies for radically novel optical fibers, including glass preform manufacture, optical fiber drawing and associated processes.  The role will involve close interaction with the engineering team to take new fabrication methods for next generation fibers and turn them into robust and reliable processes that can be successfully transferred into volume manufacture by the production team. Additionally, you will be required to support the scaling up of the new fabrication facility to meet customer demand and company ambition. As such, this role involves hands-on work in our state of the art Romsey facility five days a week. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field experience in a manufacturing environment/repairOR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field experience in a manufacturing environment /repairOR equivalent experience (degree)
  • OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field experience in a manufacturing environment /repair (degree)
  • OR equivalent experience (degree)
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. (degree)
  • Doctorate in automation, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND experience in a manufacturing environment/repairOR equivalent experience (degree)
  • OR equivalent experience (degree)
  • Patent or track record of engineering excellency (degree)

  • Technical management of projects including schedule, financial and resource planning
  • High level of technical ability in interpreting complex design requirements
  • Ability to communicate complex problems clearly at all levels
  • Excellent presentational and documentation skills
  • The ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to work across multiple tasks methodically and efficiently and meet committed timescales
  • Able to deliver technical updates of status on agreed work schedules
  • Happy to work in a dynamic environment and adaptable to changes in priorities
  • Ability to integrate into multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Hands-on, creative approach to problem solving and the ability to translate engineering requests into working solutions
