Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. This Senior Security Operations Engineer role is part of the Azure Database organization's Security Operations team, which is dedicated to strengthening internal security across services such as Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, and Cosmos DB. The team focuses on infrastructure security, security hardening, access control, anomaly detection and the development/adoption of centralized security tooling. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR 5+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, access control, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Center (SOC) detection, threat analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM), information technology (IT), and operations incident response. (degree)
- 5+ years of experience in distributed systems. (degree)
- 3+ years of experience with software tools including (Security tools or Access Control or Vulnerability Management or Anomaly Detection). (degree)
- Hands on experience with coding in (C, C#, C++, Java, or Python) (degree)
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. (degree)
- Master's Degree or Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR 7+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, and anomaly detection. (degree)
- CISSP CISA CISM SANS GCIA GCIH OSCP Security+ (degree)
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable access management solutions, including RBAC and policy enforcement across Azure database services.
- Develop and maintain security tooling to support vulnerability management, threat detection, and compliance monitoring.
- Lead security hardening efforts for infrastructure and services, ensuring alignment with Microsoft and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate security into development workflows and drive adoption of secure coding practices.
- Conduct threat modeling and risk assessments, providing actionable insights to improve the security posture of Azure database platforms.
