Are you our next Environmental Engineer I

The Environmental Engineer I will have site level responsibilities for environmental compliance, education, and stewardship for the facility. Provides evaluation of plant and Tailings Management Area (TMA) operations, air emissions, ground and surface water, and management of waste, with respect to existing and proposed environmental requirements. Advises management on compliance and initiates/directs facility environmental improvements.

What will you do?

  • Primary responsibilities will be to ensure compliance with all environmental requirements (regulations, permits, licenses, policies, and procedures) through inspections, testing, and evaluation of plant operations and development/implement plans and procedures for the Esterhazy facility. Analyze and process environmental data for compliance and trend evaluations and prepare reports for regulatory agencies, management, community groups or other stakeholders. Serve as “on-call” environmental coordinator, response to a wide range of issues including spill reporting, waste management, surface water management, air emissions and regulatory inspections.

  • Manage environmental aspects of projects to include scheduling, budgeting and selecting contractors. Supervise/coach contractors. Communicate changes, deletions, or additions regarding environmental aspects at the site for updating the Legal and Other Requirements (LOR). Actively contribute to continuous improvement for the Mosaic Management system, perform Environmental Department self-assessments to identify gaps, define and evaluate risks, and reconcile operational controls.

  • Coordinate all permit applications in consultation with the North American Permitting and Compliance Team including identifying the need for the permit, application preparation, submission, agency negotiations and appropriate notifications of permit received. Maintain records of permit applications, agency communication, and final permit. Communicate and assign associated conditions to site as needed.

  • Develop and present environmental and other training, proactive initiatives, and regular progress updates for employees, management, contractors, and external audiences (regulatory agencies, community & stakeholders).

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Chemical, Civil, Industrial or Mining Engineering required.

  • 0-2 years of experience required in environmental control/management, engineering, industrial project management, or engineering project management.

  • Experience in the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs with the mining and/or industrial sectors is preferred.

  • Proficient skills in MS Office, spreadsheets, Operations database applications, presentations, drafting programs.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to read technical/legal information and effectively communicate complex issues verbally and in writing.

    Above-average communication and presentation skills.
