Job Description

Overview:

This position is responsible for the delivery of second line risk management services in line with area policies and industry standards, and provides independent and objective perspectives, relative to Operational Risk program and practices. The role supports the enhancement, implementation and maintenance of Operational Risk program elements, in conformance with applicable Bank policies, supervisory expectations, and industry trends. The individual is knowledgeable with respect to Operational Risk Management concepts, inclusive of industry best practices and the expectations of Executive and Senior Management, the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, Regulators, Internal and External Auditors.  The role is part of a specialized team, and the individual is also expected to collaborate with other risk partners, as applicable. The position requires the ability to function with a level of independence in the oversight and/or execution of their role, as well as working effectively within the team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support of ORM’s Framework, policies and standards, including RCSA requirements, Findings, Internal Events, External Events, KRI and Testing requirements, and Continuous Monitoring.
  • Support delivery of training on ORM Program to ORM, Risk Division, and business risk partners, as appropriate.
  • Monitoring of ORM program elements executions, including reporting progress, analytics, and metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
  •  Maintain ORM records, ORM data standards, and risk taxonomy.
  • Support ORM’s internal quality assurance program.  Monitor execution for alignment with ORM policies and guidance, as well as supervisory expectations.
  • Draft/Document/Review departmental guidance and other documentation to demonstrate the process. In addition, develop training materials to be leveraged by those within the department or the Bank.
  • Interact with external peers and members of professional organizations to remain aware of changing or emerging risks and proactively bring key information to team for inclusion/consideration in continuous monitoring and/or other oversight activities.
  • Support levels of change internally within the department or externally within the Bank, in a positive manner.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

No direct management but may provide guidance to others

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of progressive-growth experience within Operational Risk Management and/or Enterprise Risk Management.

OR in lieu of degree,

A combined minimum twelve years’ higher education and/or work experience including eight years of progressive-growth experience within Operational Risk Management and/or Enterprise Risk Management.

Working knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards for Operational Risk Management.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Hands-on experience in Operational Risk Tools, Metrics, and Monitoring Reports development and /or enhancement projects
  • Experienced in actively contributing to an Operational Risk Management Program buildout and / or enhancement
  • Proficient computer skills (including Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI),
  • Analytical skills with strong written and verbal communications with all levels of management.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $123,600.00 - $206,000.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
