Job Description

Overview:

Works closely with senior managers within the division/enterprise to manage key initiatives, including supporting critical Division/Enterprise cross-functional projects related to strategic objectives of the Bank, improving risk management and ensuring efficiency and sustainability of core processes and positioning the Bank to meet evolving regulatory expectations.  Leads certain aspects of and/or support design, planning and implementation for time-sensitive, critical, programs and/or projects. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review custody agreement and related legal documentation to identify, document, and operationalize all contractual obligations
  • Serves as a critical control point between Legal, Business, and Operations to ensure new and amended custody relationships are onboarded accurately, consistently, and in compliance with client, agency/non-agency, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure operational teams clearly understand custody obligations, reporting requirements, service-level commitments, and exception handling prior to closing.
  • Participate in handoff calls and ensure contractual obligations are clearly communicated and documented.
  • Lead planning and implementing new products, programs and initiatives to achieve short and long-term business objectives and strategic outcomes. Support development of project roadmaps and plans.
  • Direct critical Bank-wide or divisional projects that may include planning, design and analysis of results, develop comprehensive documentation to align with regulatory expectations as needed, analysis of complex data sets, or analysis/optimization of data structures.
  • Assist with defining strategy of new initiatives within the division/enterprise.  May serve as subject matter expert to drive requirements, development, and production of complex ad-hoc and automated departmental analyses and reports, including workflow, project and strategic analysis and trend reporting. 
  • Synthesize large volumes of qualitative and quantitative information for analysis and decision-making.
  • Coordinate and contribute to discussions and agenda development of regular conference calls and in-person meetings of with external peers or industry groups, agencies and select US officials to share best practices and promote industry advocacy efforts.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience
  • Strong experience interpreting contracts and translating legal language into operational requirements
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to identify operational risk and escalate appropriately
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and function as a member of a team
  • Coach others in their area of expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside the organization
  • Self-motivated, results driven, and well organized
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under time constraints in support of various assignments
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and Outlook or equivalent

  • GCM deal closing experience
  • Corporate Trust Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Math, Accounting, Engineering, or Business Administration; Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree
  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant work experience
  • Banking/financial industry experience
  • Expert in Six Sigma, Lean or Process Improvement, or project management methodology
  • Experience with financial, regulatory and/or process analysis, and technical writing
  • Curious and innovative

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $107,500.00 - $179,100.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
