Job Description

During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program. Goals - Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities. Outcome - Offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Northrop Grumman team. Has served at least 180 days on active duty Is within 12 months of separation or retirement Will receive an honorable discharge Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship. 5 years of hands-on aircraft experience with bachelor's degree; or 3 years' experience with master's degree and 1 year with a PhD. Will consider demonstrated expertise with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in tactical or special mission aircraft maintenance in lieu of formal degree. Expert-level mastery of core aircraft principles, concepts, practices, and standards essential to tactical, airlift, and special mission aircraft maintenance or aircraft avionics or electro/environmental aircraft systems maintenance. Comprehensive understanding of aircraft systems maintenance and diagnostics—including airframe/structures, line replaceable components, propulsion/secondary power systems, flight controls, hydraulics, landing gear, and system rigging—with an ability to oversee and execute complex maintenance procedures. This includes robust knowledge of aircraft operation theory, advanced troubleshooting techniques, and the ability to interpret complex wiring data, engineering drawings, flag notes, supplier/vendor information, and other source data essential for developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) for field use. In-depth knowledge of complex aircraft systems with a focus on navigation, communication, radar, flight control, electro, and environmental systems either in flight line or shipboard operations. This includes a strong command of aircraft operation theory, advanced troubleshooting techniques, and the ability to interpret complex wiring data, engineering drawings, flag notes, supplier/vendor information, and other source data essential for developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) for field use. Proven advanced ability to interpret and apply intricate wiring data, technical drawings, specifications, and system description documents, ensuring precise correlation with both block and detailed schematics. Advanced proficiency in authoring, managing, and maintaining Extensible Markup Language (XML) data, ensuring both data integrity and strict adherence to industry standards and established guidelines. Extensive experience in conceptualizing, authoring, and refining detailed procedures and technical documentation for aircraft systems and subsystems to achieve operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Excellent communication (verbal/written) skills and use of Microsoft office suite. Must hold an active DoD Secret Clearance, supported by a background investigation from the past 5 years, with a consistent history of maintaining this clearance. Ability to obtain and retain a Special Program access clearance within 365 days from the date of submission. Proven experience with the Eagle/EPS publishing system. Familiarity with USAF General System Technical Orders and Time Compliance Technical Orders. In-depth experience and understanding of weight and balance standards/procedures, aircraft battle damage assessments, hourly phase inspections, and field team/depot level aircraft repairs. Demonstrated proficiency in fault isolation and fault reporting, with the ability to analyze and interpret diagnostic data to support efficient aircraft systems maintenance. Advanced skills in utilizing USAF General System Technical Orders as a resource for technical publication and maintenance planning. Expertise in authoring technical content using XML, S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications, IETM, or Data Module writing tools (e.g., Arbor text, EAGLE, XML, or similar programs). Strong command of electrical and electronic component systems, with the ability to accurately trace wiring diagrams and analyze signal data flows. At least 7 years of experience as an air vehicle maintainer crew chief or plane captain for advanced fighter/ heavy aircraft or avionics/electro/environmental aircraft system, demonstrating hands-on technical experience and leadership.
