The Nozzle Staff Structural Engineer is responsible to oversee and guide the designing, analyzing, testing and manufacturing of solid rocket motor flexseals for a variety of government and commercial programs. This individual will use their engineering knowledge and creativity to ensure the following:
Consistency in existing design and analysis methodologies. Technical rigor in supporting new decisions and changes. Innovative improvements that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements. Ensure all flexseal design and analysis activities meet internal engineering standards and program requirements (technical, cost, schedule) Review and perform structural analyses of nozzle flexseals. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineering teams in the design, analysis, test, and production of flexseals. Be the focal point of communication with production teams (including technicians, process engineers, quality, safety and VSETs). Review updates to drawings and specifications for flexseals. Conduct and lead trade studies. Review reports and presentations for design reviews to be given to internal and external customers. Lead investigations to resolve anomalous or discrepant flexseal behavior. Lead research and development efforts to improve flexseal designs. Minimum Experience: 12 years with BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or 10 years with MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; or 8 years with a PhD. Ability to travel:
Travel expectation of 10% At least 5 years of direct experience in the design and analysis of nozzles for solid rocket motors Software proficiency in NX, Abaqus, Team Center, EPLM 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&T Understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes Design and analysis experience with bolted joints, metallic and composite structures, and bonded assemblies Experience training and coaching less experienced engineers Broad understanding of mechanical design, structural analysis, material behavior, testing methods and manufacturing processes related to flexseals. Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent time management and organizational skills Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
