As a Software Architect (Node.js) on Okta's Engineering Architect Team, you'll shape the future of Auth0's authentication and authorization platform, designing scalable distributed systems that power over 100 million daily logins worldwide. You'll collaborate across Engineering, Product, and Security to level up our tech stack with hands-on Node.js and Go development while mentoring teams to deliver secure, high-performance identity solutions. This role drives Okta's innovation in identity management, balancing simplicity, reliability, and 99.99% uptime for global enterprise customers. Key Responsibilities: • Collaborate with Product, Security, and Engineering teams to define and evolve Auth0’s Node.js, Go, and cloud-native technology stack for authentication and authorization. • Embed in Engineering teams for large-scale projects, providing architectural guidance, designing distributed systems, and documenting scalable architectures using Kubernetes, AWS, and Azure. • Lead development of complex, broadly-scoped features across services with Node.js, Go, MongoDB, Redis, and PostgreSQL to enhance product scalability and performance. • Teach by doing: code, optimize, and troubleshoot Node.js and Go applications in partnership with feature teams to resolve bottlenecks and maintain 99.99% uptime SLA. • Drive technical decisions balancing simplicity, flexibility, reliability, cost, and performance while investigating resource efficiency in high-traffic identity platforms. • Mentor engineers organization-wide, participate in Engineering Leadership discussions, and join Incident Commander on-call rotation to elevate incident response. What We're Looking For: • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in Node.js architecture and large-scale distributed systems design. • Deep expertise in authentication/authorization protocols, building scalable services with Go, Node.js, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, MongoDB, Redis, and PostgreSQL. • Proven track record leading complex projects in high-availability environments with 99.99% uptime SLAs and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks. • Strong experience mentoring senior engineers, driving technical decisions, and documenting architectures for cross-functional teams. • Hands-on ability to develop production Node.js/Go applications while advancing engineering culture through partnerships and "teach by doing" approaches.
