OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) are mission-critical specialists who lead complex end-to-end deployments of our most advanced AI models. Based in Dublin, Ireland, you'll partner directly with top-tier customers to transform research breakthroughs into production-ready systems that drive measurable business outcomes.

In this high-impact role, you'll own the full lifecycle—from technical discovery and scoping through system design, development, and production rollout. Success is measured by customer adoption rates, workflow transformations, and feedback loops that directly influence OpenAI's product and model roadmaps.

This hybrid position requires 3 days per week in our Dublin office, with up to 50% travel to customer sites worldwide. We provide comprehensive relocation assistance for qualified candidates. Key Responsibilities

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at OpenAI Dublin, your responsibilities span technical leadership, customer partnership, and cross-functional collaboration:

• Lead end-to-end technical delivery for multiple high-stakes deployments, from initial prototypes to stable production systems.
• Design and build full-stack solutions using Python, JavaScript, and modern frameworks that deliver immediate customer value.
• Embed directly with customer engineering and domain teams to deeply understand workflows and pain points.
• Guide adoption through hands-on training, documentation, and iterative improvements based on real usage data.
• Conduct thorough technical scoping, create realistic delivery sequences, and proactively eliminate blockers.
• Navigate complex trade-offs between scope, velocity, and quality while maintaining delivery commitments.
• Write production-grade code when necessary to unblock progress or demonstrate feasibility.
• Distill field learnings into scalable tools, playbooks, and reusable components for the broader FDE team.
• Provide actionable feedback from customer deployments to Research and Product teams, influencing model improvements.
• Maintain crystal-clear communication and momentum across internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Research, Partnerships, GRC, Security, and GTM teams to ensure seamless execution.
• Drive success metrics including production adoption rates, workflow efficiency gains, and evaluation-driven insights.
• Manage technical risks through early identification and agile course corrections without sacrificing velocity.

This role demands both deep technical expertise and exceptional partnership skills, making it ideal for senior engineers who excel at turning complexity into customer success.

Qualifications

We're seeking battle-tested engineers with 5+ years of experience who can deliver in high-pressure, ambiguous scenarios:

• 5+ years of engineering/technical deployment experience, including substantial customer-facing work.
• Demonstrated success scoping and shipping complex systems in fast-paced environments.
• Production-grade coding proficiency across full-stack (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, etc.).
• Hands-on experience building/deploying LLM or generative AI-powered systems.
• Intimate knowledge of how model behaviors impact end-user product experiences.
• Proven ability to simplify complexity and make high-quality decisions under tight deadlines.
• Exceptional communication with technical and non-technical audiences alike.
• Strong risk radar with the agility to pivot without losing momentum.
• Cool-headed judgment when stakes are highest.
• Comfort with hybrid work (3 days/week in Dublin) and up to 50% travel.

Bonus: Experience with MLOps, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), API design, or enterprise AI integrations.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $180,000 - $300,000 USD base (Dublin-adjusted, plus equity). Total compensation includes significant OpenAI equity with potential for substantial upside.
