Key Responsibilities

As a Security Engineer, Application Security, your impact will be immediate and profound:

• Perform comprehensive security assessments, including code reviews and penetration testing on applications.
• Develop innovative security tools, frameworks, and automation scripts to detect and mitigate threats.
• Partner with dev teams to infuse security best practices throughout the SDLC, from design to deployment.
• Lead threat modeling workshops to proactively identify and strategize against risks.
• Conduct in-depth risk assessments for new features and legacy systems.
• Manage the full vulnerability lifecycle: discovery, triage, remediation tracking, and verification.
• Support incident response by analyzing app-related breaches and driving resolutions.
• Maintain meticulous documentation of findings, incidents, and mitigation strategies.
• Monitor evolving threats, vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10), and technologies to enhance defenses.
• Deliver security training and guidance to foster organization-wide awareness.

• Automate testing pipelines using Python, CI/CD integrations, and SAST/DAST tools.

Qualifications

To excel as a Security Engineer at OpenAI, bring:

• 5+ years in infosec/cybersecurity, with 2+ years in app sec leadership.

• Proven app sec experience in software dev environments.
• Fluency in Python, Java, C++; mastery of Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, etc.
• Strong grasp of encryption, auth protocols, and web/app vulnerabilities.
• Excellent communication to bridge technical gaps with stakeholders.
• Track record in vuln management and incident response.
• Passion for AI security and staying ahead of threats.
• BS/MS in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience.

Bonus: Experience securing ML models, cloud-native apps (AWS/GCP), or compliance (SOC2, GDPR).
