The Compute team at OpenAI is at the forefront of AI infrastructure, focusing on workload modeling, accelerator co-design, and data center partnerships. As a Technical Program Manager, Hardware Systems, you'll spearhead technical initiatives from concept to launch, ensuring AI hardware solutions are optimized for our cutting-edge workloads.

Based in San Francisco, CA, this role involves close collaboration with design engineers, manufacturing teams, operations, and external vendors. You'll optimize partner hardware, identify new deep learning accelerators, and bring them to production scale. Key Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, you'll own the end-to-end development of AI hardware systems. Key responsibilities include:

• Driving technical program management for next-gen AI hardware from concept to production deployment.
• Leading cross-functional teams including design engineering, manufacturing, operations, and external partners to meet timelines and quality standards.
• Establishing robust NPI processes with defined milestones, deliverables, and continuous improvements across functions.
• Providing hands-on oversight through all phases: analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and post-launch support.
• Owning success across the hardware stack—chip, package, board, module, rack, cables, and subsystems—spanning internal and partner efforts.
• Developing program requirements, scope, schedules, and deliverables in partnership with stakeholders.
• Fostering effective communication to align cross-functional execution.
• Conducting risk assessments, mitigation planning, and change management to overcome obstacles.
• Managing multiple concurrent projects while monitoring progress and enforcing deadlines.
• Partnering on design changes, validation, and integration of engineering needs into system builds.
• Staying ahead of industry trends to identify promising deep learning accelerators.
• Optimizing hardware for OpenAI workloads and scaling production deployments.
• Driving process enhancements for efficient platform introductions and reviews.

Qualifications

To thrive, you'll bring:

• 7+ years in technical program management, ideally in AI/hardware or data centers.
• Track record of launching complex projects with cross-functional teams.
• Expertise in AI supercomputers, deep learning accelerators, and co-design.
• Strong NPI experience with milestone-driven processes.
• End-to-end hardware knowledge from silicon to rack-scale systems.
• Proven stakeholder management across engineering, ops, and vendors.
• Exceptional risk management, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
• B.S./M.S. in CS, EE, or equivalent; industry trend awareness.
• Experience with thermal design, workload modeling, and production scaling.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative mindset.
