Position Summary

The Operations Intern - KS McPherson position at Williams offers a 10–12 week immersive program designed as your launchpad into the natural gas industry. Based in McPherson, Kansas, this hands-on internship provides real-world experience in operations, technical skills development, and collaboration with industry leaders. Day in the Life

Expect a dynamic routine involving training in electrical systems, flow paths, and mechanical tasks. You'll perform transmitter calibrations, line locations, pigging operations, valve maintenance, daily rounds, and general facility upkeep. Responsibilities adapt to business needs, your skills, and location specifics, ensuring a tailored development experience with technical mentoring, real-time feedback, and enterprise-wide networking.

Key Responsibilities

As an Operations Intern, you'll contribute directly to safe and efficient facility operations. Core duties include:

  • Assisting with tasks to maintain equipment, support operations, and solve technical problems collaboratively.
  • Gaining knowledge of safety protocols for personnel, community, environment, and assets.
  • Completing reports, logs, and accurate records of process operations and preventative maintenance.
  • Participating in electrical/instrumentation training, transmitter calibrations, and I/E support.
  • Conducting line locations, pigging, valve maintenance, daily rounds, and readings in the gathering system.
  • Building mechanical expertise through maintenance, compliance activities, and facility cleaning.
  • Other duties as assigned to support team success.

Required Qualifications

To thrive in this role, candidates must meet these essentials:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current enrollment and completion of at least one semester in Industrial Electrical Technology, Industrial Mechanical Maintenance, Machining & Manufacturing Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or Renewable Energy Technology from Hutchinson Community College (Hutch CC) or Barton Community College (Barton CCC).
  • Valid State Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work in extreme temperatures, loud noises, enclosed spaces, and at elevated heights using PPE, man lifts, ladders, or scaffolding.
  • Physical ability to carry/lift up to 50 lbs individually, team lift heavier loads, stand/walk/climb/bend/stoop/squat for extended periods, and use hand tools.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a strong safety focus.
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
