Sonoco's Gastonia, NC plant seeks a skilled Winder Operator I for second shift (3pm-11pm). Earn $21.79/hr in this full-time role focused on machine setup, monitoring, and production of high-quality tubes. Responsibilities include paper loading, adhesive adjustment, winder operation, quality checks, and maintenance in a safety-first environment. Ideal for mechanically apt individuals passionate about manufacturing excellence.
Primary duties encompass loading paperboard and threading plies, starting and adjusting the winder, monitoring cut-off and delivery, performing splicing, lubrication, and restarts. Conduct quality checks every hour for parent stick, skiving, printing, gaps, glue, and ply spread. Maintain printer setups, clean machines, complete production paperwork, and execute preventative maintenance like cleaning glue pans, mandrels, belts, and blades. Promote safety by reporting violations and keeping areas clean.
Candidates must read gauges, interpret instructions in English, and use tools like tape measures and calipers. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, color discernment, and ability to evaluate paper/glue quality. Meet physical demands: stand/walk extended periods, lift 50 lbs, bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders under 10 ft. Experience with machine controls and pneumatic systems preferred.
