Position Overview

Oracle is seeking a Critical Facility Operations Technician to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering Team in Abilene, TX. As a key member of the operations team, you will be responsible for the operation, upkeep, and optimization of vital building systems, including electrical, mechanical, and automation infrastructure. This role demands hands-on expertise in maintaining 24/7 uptime for high-density data center environments, ensuring maximum reliability, efficiency, and safety. Ideal candidates bring extensive experience in critical facilities operations and a passion for proactive problem-solving in fast-paced, mission-critical settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate critical infrastructure systems, including UPS, generators, HVAC, CRAC units, and power distribution, to maintain 99.999% uptime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems in accordance with OEM specifications.
  • Respond to alarms and incidents via DCIM tools and BMS systems, executing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Conduct daily inspections and rounds of facility equipment, documenting conditions and escalating issues to senior engineers as needed.
  • Execute change management procedures for system upgrades, capacity expansions, and emergency responses following ITIL best practices.
  • Optimize energy efficiency by tuning cooling systems, load balancing power usage, and implementing sustainability initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inventory, and compliance documentation using CMMS software.
  • Collaborate with data center operations teams to support customer deployments and ensure seamless integration of new hardware.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, providing 24/7 support for critical incidents and facility emergencies.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and support audits for OSHA, EPA, and industry standards compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in electrical, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in critical facilities operations, data centers, or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including medium/high voltage distribution, PDUs, ATS, and STS.
  • Proficiency in HVAC/chiller plant operations, controls, and refrigeration systems (EPA 608 certification required).
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), DCIM tools, and automation platforms like Schneider Electric or Siemens.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical blueprints, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams.
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks at heights using ladders or man-lifts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and familiarity with multimeters, thermal imaging, and diagnostic tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Critical Facility Operations certification (CFOT, CDCP, or equivalent from Uptime Institute or AFCOM).
  • Experience with diesel generator systems, fuel polishing, and load bank testing.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or hyperscale data center operations.
  • Knowledge of scripting for automation (Python, PowerShell) and integration with monitoring tools like Nagios or Splunk.
  • Previous experience in a 24/7 on-call environment with proven incident response capabilities.
