Position Overview

Oracle is seeking a skilled Critical Facility Technician - HVAC to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering Team in Abilene, TX. In this role, you will operate, maintain, and optimize HVAC systems and associated critical infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted service in our high-availability data centers. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in HVAC technologies, climate control, and safety protocols, contributing to maximum system reliability, energy efficiency, and operational safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC systems, including chillers, CRAC units, air handlers, and refrigeration components.
  • Monitor HVAC performance through SCADA, BMS, and other automation systems to detect anomalies and optimize energy efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex HVAC failures, minimizing downtime in critical 24/7 data center environments.
  • Conduct system capacity planning and upgrades to support data center expansion and cooling demands.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety, and refrigerant handling regulations.
  • Collaborate with facilities engineers and vendors to execute planned maintenance windows and emergency responses.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system logs, and compliance documentation using CMMS tools.
  • Test and calibrate HVAC controls, sensors, and actuators to ensure precise temperature, humidity, and airflow control.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for HVAC incidents and recommend improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Support commissioning and decommissioning of HVAC equipment during data center build-outs or retrofits.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in HVAC, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining HVAC systems in critical environments such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
  • Universal EPA certification for refrigerant handling (Section 608).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC principles, including psychrometrics, refrigeration cycles, and controls systems.
  • Proficiency with building management systems (BMS), SCADA, and diagnostic tools for HVAC troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS software.
  • Commitment to safety standards, including OSHA regulations and confined space entry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Certified HVAC Technician (NATE or equivalent).
  • Experience with data center-specific cooling technologies like direct liquid cooling or free cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or similar hyperscale cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency standards such as ASHRAE guidelines and PUE optimization.
  • Experience with scripting or automation for HVAC monitoring and alerting.
