Position Overview

Oracle is seeking a Critical Facility Technician - UPS to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering Team in Abilene, TX. This role specializes in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of large Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and associated critical infrastructure. As a key member of the operations team, you will ensure maximum reliability, efficiency, and safety in our high-availability data center environment. Candidates with hands-on experience in UPS systems, electrical engineering, and critical facility operations will thrive in this dynamic, 24/7 operational role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor large-scale UPS systems, including modular and static UPS units exceeding 1MW, to maintain continuous power availability.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on UPS equipment, batteries, and related power distribution systems in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues in UPS systems, minimizing downtime in critical environments.
  • Conduct routine inspections, load testing, and performance analysis of UPS infrastructure to optimize efficiency and reliability.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, arc flash mitigation, and PPE compliance.
  • Collaborate with facilities engineers to integrate UPS systems with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automation controls.
  • Document maintenance activities, system performance metrics, and incident reports using CMMS tools for audit and compliance.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies, coordinating with on-site teams for rapid issue resolution during off-hours shifts.
  • Assist in capacity planning and upgrades for UPS infrastructure to support growing data center demands.
  • Train junior technicians on UPS operations, safety practices, and best-in-class maintenance procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and operating large UPS systems (500kVA+), including APC, Eaton, or Vertiv brands.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in electrical engineering or facilities management required (e.g., CFM, CET).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including three-phase power, switchgear, PDUs, and battery technologies (VRLA, Ni-Cd).
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and control diagrams for UPS and power systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with safety standards such as NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and critical facility protocols.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 shift environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-call rotation.
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces with proper safety equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform under high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field.
  • UPS-specific certifications such as APC Symmetra Certified Technician or Eaton Certified Field Service Engineer.
  • Experience with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools and SCADA systems for monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or hyperscale data center operations.
  • Previous experience in commissioning, decommissioning, or upgrading mission-critical power systems.
