Position Overview

Oracle is seeking a Critical Facility Technician - UPS to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering Team in NM, United States. This role specializes in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of large Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and associated critical infrastructure. As a key member of the operations team, you will ensure maximum uptime, efficiency, and safety in high-stakes environments supporting Oracle's cloud services. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on experience with UPS systems, electrical engineering principles, and proactive troubleshooting to maintain mission-critical power reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor large-scale UPS systems, including routine inspections, performance testing, and real-time diagnostics to ensure continuous power availability.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on UPS equipment, batteries, and related subsystems to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in UPS infrastructure, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and schematics for rapid resolution.
  • Conduct load bank testing and capacity assessments on UPS systems to validate performance under simulated failure conditions.
  • Collaborate with facilities engineers to integrate UPS operations with broader data center power distribution, cooling, and automation systems.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, arc flash mitigation, and compliance with NFPA 70E standards.
  • Document maintenance activities, system logs, and incident reports using CMMS tools to support predictive analytics and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies, coordinating with on-site teams to execute failover procedures and restore critical power systems.
  • Optimize UPS efficiency through firmware updates, configuration tuning, and energy management strategies to reduce operational costs.
  • Train junior technicians and cross-functional teams on UPS best practices, safety procedures, and system-specific operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and operating large-scale UPS systems (500kVA+), including brands like APC, Eaton, or Vertiv.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including three-phase power distribution, transformers, switchgear, and battery technologies (VRLA, NiCd).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in electrical engineering, facilities management, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with UPS monitoring software, SCADA systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS) for real-time oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams for troubleshooting complex power systems.
  • Experience with safety compliance, including OSHA regulations, NEC codes, and critical power environment protocols.
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces, lift 50+ lbs, and perform tasks at heights using ladders or aerial lifts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to preventing failures in 24/7 mission-critical operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • UPS manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., APC Certified Field Engineer, Eaton Certified Technical Associate).
  • Experience with data center critical infrastructure, including generators, PDUs, and CRACs in Tier III/IV facilities.
  • Familiarity with automation technologies like PLCs, Modbus, or SNMP for UPS integration and remote management.
  • Previous role in a hyperscale cloud data center or colocation facility environment.
  • Critical Facility Technician (CFT) or Certified Data Centre Technician (CDCT) certification.
