Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team in the Republic of Korea, providing comprehensive in-house legal services with a strong focus on compliance with Oracle policies, procedures, and applicable laws. This role will support Oracle's business operations by offering proactive legal advice, managing risks, and ensuring regulatory adherence in a fast-paced technology environment. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative setting, partnering with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives while safeguarding the company's interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and counsel on a wide range of issues, including contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property, and data privacy compliance in the Republic of Korea.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, customer licenses, and partnership deals to mitigate risks and align with business objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to local Korean laws, regulations, and Oracle global policies, conducting compliance audits and implementing training programs as needed.
  • Manage litigation, disputes, and regulatory inquiries, coordinating with external counsel and representing Oracle in legal proceedings.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, and strategic transactions by performing due diligence and advising on legal implications under Korean and international law.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders, including sales, finance, HR, and product teams, to provide timely legal support.
  • Monitor changes in Korean legal and regulatory landscape, such as data protection (PIPA), labor laws, and antitrust regulations, and advise on their impact to Oracle operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new business initiatives and recommend mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
  • Assist in policy development and updates to ensure Oracle's internal guidelines remain compliant with evolving legal standards.
  • Collaborate with global legal teams to align regional practices with Oracle's worldwide compliance framework.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution, with admission to the bar in the Republic of Korea.
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in-house at a multinational technology company or in a top-tier law firm with corporate/tech focus.
  • Deep knowledge of Korean commercial law, contract law, intellectual property rights, and data privacy regulations (e.g., PIPA).
  • Proven track record in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex commercial contracts in a business context.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements for technology companies operating in Korea.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with fluency in Korean and English (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated judgment and ethical decision-making in high-stakes legal matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising on cloud computing, SaaS agreements, or technology licensing in the Korean market.
  • Familiarity with international trade laws, export controls, and cross-border transactions involving Korea.
  • Previous in-house experience at a Fortune 500 company or tech giant.
  • Knowledge of Oracle products, cloud services, or enterprise software industry.
  • Advanced degree or certification in compliance, data privacy, or international law.
