Position Overview

Oracle is seeking a skilled Power Generation Technician/Operator to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering Team in Abilene, TX. This role is pivotal in maintaining the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of power generation systems, including diesel and gas generators, UPS systems, and associated electrical infrastructure critical to our cloud operations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise in power systems, exceptional troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to electrical safety in high-stakes, 24/7 environments. You will contribute to minimizing downtime and ensuring seamless power redundancy for Oracle's global data center footprint.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor diesel and gas generators, including startup, shutdown, and load testing procedures to ensure continuous power availability.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on power generation equipment, adhering to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in generators, transfer switches, and related systems to minimize downtime in mission-critical environments.
  • Conduct load bank testing and fuel system management, including tank inspections, fuel polishing, and inventory tracking.
  • Respond to power-related alarms and emergencies, executing failover procedures and coordinating with on-site teams for rapid resolution.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation for all maintenance activities, compliance audits, and system performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with facilities engineers, electricians, and vendors to plan and execute upgrades or expansions to power infrastructure.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash protection, and PPE usage during all operations.
  • Assist in capacity planning and forecasting for power systems to support growing data center demands.
  • Participate in training programs and stay current with emerging technologies in power generation and renewable energy integration.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining diesel and/or gas generators in industrial or data center settings.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including 480V-13.8kV distribution, ATS, and paralleling switchgear.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex power systems using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety standards for high-voltage environments.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 shift environment, including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary certifications (e.g., forklift, confined space).
  • Excellent communication skills for team coordination and reporting incidents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Generator Technician (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, or EPA Tier 4 emissions).
  • Experience with SCADA systems, PLC controls, or BMS for power monitoring.
  • Familiarity with data center power redundancy designs (N+1, 2N) and cooling integration.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy sources or hybrid power systems.
  • Previous experience in a Tier III/IV data center or mission-critical facility.
