Position Overview

Oracle is seeking a skilled Power Generation Technician/Operator to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering Team in NM, United States. This role is pivotal in maintaining the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of critical power generation systems, including diesel and gas generators, transfer switches, and associated electrical infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise in power systems, exceptional troubleshooting abilities, and a strong commitment to electrical safety in high-stakes, mission-critical environments. You will ensure uninterrupted power delivery to support Oracle's cloud operations 24/7.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor diesel and gas generators, including startup, shutdown, and load testing procedures to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on power generation equipment, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and coolant checks.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and mechanical issues in generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and related systems.
  • Conduct load bank testing and parallel operation of generators to validate redundancy and reliability.
  • Execute emergency response protocols during power outages, including manual transfers and black start procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, breakers, and cabling up to 13.8kV.
  • Document all maintenance activities, test results, and repairs using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) tools.
  • Collaborate with facilities engineers and vendors to plan and execute major repairs or upgrades.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash protection, and NFPA 70E compliance.
  • Monitor environmental controls and fuel systems to prevent contamination and ensure regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining diesel and/or gas generators in industrial or data center environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including AC/DC power, three-phase systems, and medium-voltage distribution.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex power generation and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and multimeters.
  • Understanding of safety protocols, including OSHA, NFPA 70E, and EPA regulations for power systems.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 shift environment, including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations.
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary certifications (e.g., forklift, confined space).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Journeyman Electrician or Diesel Generator Technician (e.g., EPA 609/608, Cummins/Kohler certified).
  • Experience with SCADA systems or PLC controls for generator monitoring and automation.
  • Familiarity with data center critical infrastructure, including UPS, PDUs, and CRAC units.
  • Knowledge of fuel polishing and tank maintenance for large-scale diesel storage systems.
  • Previous experience in a Tier III/IV data center or mission-critical facility.
