Position Overview

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff in Oracle's Seattle office, you will lead the architecture and development of mission-critical cloud services within our Cloud Infrastructure group.

This senior individual contributor role offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor engineers, and deliver high-impact solutions that support Oracle's global customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and design scalable, highly available distributed systems for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Lead end-to-end development of core platform features, from prototyping to production deployment.
  • Optimize system performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency at massive scale.
  • Drive technical innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and integrating them into product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to define and refine technical requirements.
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and establish best practices for software development.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in real-time distributed environments.
  • Contribute to open-source projects and represent Oracle in industry forums and conferences.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system designs and APIs.
  • Measure and improve key metrics such as latency, throughput, and error rates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on distributed systems or cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Go, Python, or C++.
  • Deep expertise in system design, microservices architecture, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of networking, databases (e.g., Oracle DB, NoSQL), and cloud computing principles.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-scale, production-grade systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle ambiguous, complex challenges.
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or comparable public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Background in infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Publications, patents, or contributions to open-source projects in distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with machine learning operations (MLOps) or big data processing frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of security best practices in cloud-native environments.
