Position Overview

As a Principal Member Technical Staff in Oracle Database Kernel Development, you will design, develop, and troubleshoot scalable Vector AI and data systems to deliver enterprise-grade performance. This role focuses on advancing Oracle's core database engine to support next-generation AI workloads, vector search capabilities, and high-performance data processing. Based in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, you will collaborate with elite engineering teams to push the boundaries of database technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable Vector AI features within the Oracle Database kernel for high-performance vector search and similarity matching.
• Develop and optimize data systems to handle massive-scale AI workloads and enterprise data processing requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance issues in kernel-level database components under extreme loads.
• Collaborate with product managers and architects to define technical specifications for new Vector AI capabilities.
• Conduct performance tuning and benchmarking of vector indexing, embedding storage, and retrieval algorithms.
• Write high-quality, maintainable C/C++ code for kernel modules, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Prototype and validate innovative AI integration features, such as in-database machine learning vector operations.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews for kernel development best practices.
• Analyze production telemetry data to identify and mitigate bottlenecks in Vector AI pipelines.
• Participate in cross-team initiatives to integrate Vector AI with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in database kernel or systems programming.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and low-level systems programming for high-performance applications.
• Deep knowledge of database internals, including storage engines, indexing, and query optimization.
• Proven experience with performance analysis, profiling tools, and optimization techniques.
• Experience developing or working with AI/ML systems, particularly vector databases or similarity search.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex, distributed systems issues.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating in global, cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science with focus on databases, AI, or systems.
• Experience with Oracle Database or other major relational/NoSQL database systems.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or ONNX for vector embeddings.
• Contributions to open-source projects in database kernels, vector search, or AI infrastructure.
• Knowledge of GPU/accelerator programming (CUDA, OpenCL) for AI workloads.
