Position Overview

As a Principal Member Technical Staff in Oracle Database Kernel Development, you will design, develop, and troubleshoot scalable Vector AI and data systems to deliver enterprise-grade performance. This role focuses on advancing Oracle's core database engine with state-of-the-art vector search, machine learning integrations, and high-performance data processing capabilities. Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable Vector AI features within the Oracle Database kernel to support advanced similarity search and embedding models.
• Develop high-performance data structures and algorithms optimized for vector operations and large-scale AI workloads.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance issues in multi-tenant, enterprise-scale database environments.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineering teams to define and prototype new Vector AI capabilities.
• Optimize kernel-level code for low-latency vector indexing, retrieval, and integration with SQL and PL/SQL interfaces.
• Conduct performance tuning, benchmarking, and scalability testing for Vector AI systems under diverse workloads.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical roadmaps for next-generation database AI features.
• Write comprehensive documentation, unit tests, and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
• Investigate and integrate emerging AI technologies, such as neural embeddings and generative AI, into the database core.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and on-call rotations to maintain production system stability.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in database kernel or systems programming.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and low-level programming for performance-critical systems.
• Deep knowledge of database internals, including indexing, query optimization, and storage engines.
• Experience with vector databases, similarity search algorithms (e.g., HNSW, IVF), or AI/ML frameworks.
• Proven track record of delivering high-performance, scalable systems in production environments.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex, distributed systems issues.
• Strong communication skills and experience working in cross-functional, global teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science with focus on databases, AI, or high-performance computing.
• Experience with Oracle Database development or contributions to open-source database projects.
• Familiarity with GPU acceleration, SIMD instructions, or parallel processing for vector operations.
• Knowledge of machine learning models, embeddings (e.g., BERT, CLIP), and RAG architectures.
• Prior experience in cloud-native database services or hybrid transactional/analytical processing (HTAP).
