Position Overview

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Compute is the foundational platform powering hosting for external customers, internal services like Fusion Apps, and all OCI services. As a Principal Software Developer in the Compute team based in Nashville, TN, you will lead the design and development of advanced compute services managing Bare Metal and Virtual Machines for customer and service enclaves. This role offers the opportunity to architect scalable, high-performance systems that form the backbone of OCI's cloud offerings, collaborating with elite engineering teams to drive cutting-edge innovations.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop scalable compute services for Bare Metal and Virtual Machine management within OCI.
• Lead the design of high-performance, reliable systems supporting customer and service enclaves.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement technical requirements for compute infrastructure.
• Optimize resource allocation and provisioning algorithms to enhance performance and efficiency.
• Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to maintain code quality and best practices.
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues in distributed compute environments.
• Drive innovation in compute virtualization technologies, including enclave security features.
• Develop and maintain APIs and tooling for seamless integration with OCI services.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategic planning for Compute platform evolution.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and operational excellence in all compute deployments.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience in cloud infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java, C++, or Go for building high-performance backend services.
• Deep expertise in virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, Xen) and container orchestration.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
• Experience with Linux/Unix systems, networking, and resource management.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex distributed systems issues.
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with global engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with OCI, AWS, or Azure cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with hardware enclaves (e.g., Intel SGX) and confidential computing.
• Contributions to open-source projects in compute or virtualization domains.
• Knowledge of machine learning for resource optimization in cloud environments.
• Advanced degree or certifications in cloud architecture.
