Position Overview

Join OCI’s Edge Security team as a Principal Software Engineer (DevOps) to architect and deliver cloud-scale DDoS protection solutions. You’ll lead the design of high-performance detection and mitigation systems, drive automation and operational excellence, and set the technical direction for customer-facing DDoS capabilities across OCI’s global edge. This role demands deep expertise in Linux networking data path and kernel-level networking, combined with strong systems and DevOps engineering experience, to protect OCI customers from evolving threats at massive scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect high-performance DDoS detection and mitigation systems leveraging Linux kernel technologies like XDP, eBPF, DPDK, iptables, and nftables.
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable networking data path solutions for OCI’s global edge infrastructure.
• Drive automation initiatives to streamline deployment, monitoring, and operations of security services at cloud scale.
• Set technical direction and mentor engineers on best practices for systems engineering and DevOps in high-availability environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and integrate DDoS protection into customer-facing OCI services.
• Optimize kernel-level networking performance to handle petabit-scale traffic with minimal latency.
• Develop and maintain operational tools for real-time threat detection, alerting, and mitigation workflows.
• Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and resilience testing for edge security systems.
• Contribute to open-source projects and internal tools that advance OCI’s networking and security capabilities.
• Champion operational excellence by implementing CI/CD pipelines, observability, and chaos engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, with deep expertise in Linux networking data path and kernel internals.
• Proven proficiency in kernel-level networking technologies including XDP, eBPF, DPDK, iptables, and nftables.
• Strong DevOps experience with automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Hands-on experience designing and operating high-scale, distributed systems in cloud or edge environments.
• Expertise in performance optimization, profiling, and troubleshooting networking bottlenecks at scale.
• Excellent programming skills in C, Python, or Go, with experience in kernel module development.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and influence cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with DDoS mitigation systems or network security at hyperscale providers.
• Familiarity with OCI, AWS, or Azure networking services and edge computing architectures.
• Contributions to open-source networking projects (e.g., eBPF, DPDK communities).
• Knowledge of machine learning for anomaly detection in network traffic.
• Experience with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack in production environments.
