Position Overview

The Production Service Systems Administrator 3 plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of Oracle's production environments, including systems and databases that support vital business operations.

This position involves proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance to achieve high availability, performance, and security across mission-critical infrastructure.

Based in Austin, TX, you will collaborate with engineering and operations teams to maintain 24/7 uptime for Oracle's cloud and on-premises services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage production systems and databases using industry-standard tools to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including patching, backups, and capacity planning for Linux/Unix environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents in production environments, minimizing downtime and impact to business operations.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, compliance standards, and access management for production systems.
  • Collaborate with development and engineering teams to deploy updates, configurations, and new services into production.
  • Analyze system logs, metrics, and alerts to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues.
  • Automate operational tasks using scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Perl to improve efficiency.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical production incidents.
  • Document procedures, configurations, and incident resolutions to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance tuning and optimization of databases and servers to meet service level agreements (SLAs).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, with a focus on production environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix system administration, including kernel tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience administering Oracle Database or other relational databases in high-availability setups.
  • Proficiency in monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, Nagios, or Prometheus.
  • Experience with scripting and automation for operational tasks (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle production incidents under pressure with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and load balancing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or other public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Certification such as RHCE, Oracle Certified Professional, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Prior experience in a 24/7 operations center or global support environment.
