Position Overview

The Production Service Systems Administrator 3 plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of Oracle's production environments, including systems and databases that support vital business operations.

This position involves proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of high-availability infrastructure to minimize downtime and deliver seamless service to internal and external customers.

Based in Austin, TX, you will collaborate with engineering, operations, and support teams in a fast-paced environment, leveraging your expertise to maintain mission-critical systems at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage production systems and databases using advanced tools to ensure 99.99%+ uptime and optimal performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades on Linux/Unix servers, Oracle databases, and related infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across multi-tier environments, including root cause analysis and resolution of incidents affecting business operations.
  • Implement and maintain automation scripts for system provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Python.
  • Collaborate with development and engineering teams to deploy new applications and services into production with zero-downtime strategies.
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to support growing workloads in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Enforce security best practices, including vulnerability assessments, access controls, and compliance with internal audit standards.
  • Document operational procedures, create runbooks, and contribute to on-call rotation for 24/7 production support.
  • Analyze system logs and metrics to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks or bottlenecks.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and business continuity planning to ensure resilience of critical services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, with focus on production environments and high-availability systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration, including scripting in Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Hands-on experience administering Oracle Database (12c/19c/21c) or other relational databases in production.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues in multi-tier architectures using tools like Splunk, Nagios, or Prometheus.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, load balancers, firewalls, and cloud infrastructure services.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle certifications such as OCP, OCA, or Cloud Infrastructure certifications.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or other major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager or Grafana.
  • Background in agile methodologies and DevOps practices for production deployments.
