Position Overview

As a Production Service Systems Administrator 3 in Oracle's Austin office, you will play a pivotal role in operating and maintaining production environments, including systems and databases that support critical business operations. This position requires proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure high availability, performance, and security of Oracle's production infrastructure. You will collaborate with engineering teams to deliver reliable services in a fast-paced, cloud-centric environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage production systems and databases using industry-standard tools to ensure 99.99% uptime and optimal performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades on Linux/Unix servers and Oracle databases with minimal business impact.
  • Troubleshoot complex incidents in production environments, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for critical production data.
  • Automate system administration tasks using scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Ansible to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to deploy new releases and configurations via CI/CD pipelines.
  • Enforce security best practices, including access controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance with Oracle security standards.
  • Generate performance reports and capacity planning recommendations to support business growth.
  • Respond to on-call escalations, providing 24/7 support for production issues as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Document operational procedures, configurations, and incident resolutions for knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, with focus on production environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix system administration, including kernel tuning and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience administering Oracle databases (e.g., Oracle 19c/21c) in high-availability setups.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across OS, network, storage, and application layers.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, Nagios, or Prometheus.
  • Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform for infrastructure management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 production support model.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle certifications such as OCP (Oracle Certified Professional) or OCNA (Oracle Cloud Native Administrator).
  • Experience with cloud platforms like Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure.
