Position Overview

As a Senior Database Site Reliability Engineer in Oracle's Bengaluru office, you will design, write, and deploy software to enhance the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle's mission-critical database products and services. This role combines deep database expertise with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to ensure our global cloud infrastructure performs at peak levels. You will collaborate with engineering teams to proactively identify and resolve issues, driving operational excellence in a high-stakes environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement automated monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems for Oracle database clusters to achieve 99.99% uptime.
• Develop and deploy scalable software solutions using Python, Go, or Java to optimize database performance and resource utilization.
• Lead on-call rotations and root cause analysis for production incidents, creating post-mortems to prevent recurrence.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database infrastructure changes, ensuring zero-downtime deployments.
• Optimize database configurations for high availability across multi-region cloud environments, including Exadata and Autonomous Database.
• Collaborate with product engineering teams to influence software design for better observability and reliability.
• Perform capacity planning and scaling exercises for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) database services under peak loads.
• Implement chaos engineering practices to test and improve system resilience against failures.
• Mentor junior SREs on best practices for database operations and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
• Monitor and tune database metrics using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps roles focused on databases.
• Strong expertise in Oracle Database administration, including RAC, Data Guard, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or Java for automation and tooling.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like OCI, AWS, or Azure, including container orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker).
• Demonstrated ability to handle production incidents and on-call duties in 24/7 environments.
• Deep knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, networking, and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to reliability engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle certifications such as OCP, OCM, or OCI Architect Associate.
• Experience with chaos engineering tools like Chaos Monkey or Gremlin.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) for database provisioning.
• Background in large-scale distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Contributions to open-source SRE or database projects.
