Job Description

Company Overview

Oracle Corporation is a global leader in enterprise cloud computing, database software, and AI infrastructure, powering thousands of the world's most successful businesses. With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we deliver cutting-edge services that enable organizations to innovate at scale while optimizing performance and cost. Our commitment to excellence drives us to push the boundaries of technology in cloud-native environments.

Position Overview

The OCI AI Infrastructure Innovation team is seeking a Senior Principal Performance Engineer to lead end-to-end performance strategy and engineering across the full stack—from application services and runtimes to operating systems, network, storage, and underlying hardware. In this role, you will define architecture changes, establish rigorous methodologies and tooling, and drive deep-dive investigations that unlock meaningful gains in latency, throughput, efficiency, and cost. If you thrive at troubleshooting complex distributed environments and mentoring teams to deliver measurable improvements, this position offers the opportunity to advance the state of the art in cloud performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end performance optimization across OCI AI infrastructure, spanning application services, runtimes, OS, network, storage, and hardware.
  • Define and implement performance architectures, methodologies, and tooling to achieve breakthroughs in latency, throughput, and efficiency.
  • Conduct deep-dive performance investigations using advanced profiling, tracing, and benchmarking techniques in distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify bottlenecks and architect solutions that deliver measurable cost savings and scalability.
  • Mentor senior engineers and teams on performance best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain performance dashboards, alerting systems, and automated testing frameworks for proactive monitoring.
  • Partner with hardware and silicon teams to optimize OCI's custom infrastructure for AI workloads.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives to integrate performance engineering into the product development lifecycle.
  • Analyze production workloads to recommend and validate architecture changes for next-generation AI services.
  • Present performance findings and roadmaps to executive leadership and influence strategic decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in performance engineering, optimization, or systems engineering in large-scale distributed environments.
  • Proven track record of leading performance improvements in cloud infrastructure, with expertise in latency, throughput, and resource efficiency.
  • Deep knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Unix), networking protocols, storage systems, and hardware architectures.
  • Strong proficiency in performance analysis tools such as perf, flame graphs, eBPF, VTune, and custom tracing frameworks.
  • Experience with container runtimes (Docker, Kubernetes), JVM tuning, and high-performance computing for AI/ML workloads.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to debug complex, multi-tier distributed systems under production loads.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate technical insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience optimizing GPU/TPU clusters or AI inference/training pipelines at hyperscale.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or comparable public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Contributions to open-source performance tools or publications in systems performance conferences.
  • Advanced knowledge of kernel development, RDMA, DPDK, or custom network fabrics.
  • Leadership experience in building and scaling performance engineering teams.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses with target total compensation exceeding $300K annually.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance with low employee premiums.
  • Generous 401(k) matching and employee stock purchase plan for long-term financial growth.
  • Flexible time off, including unlimited PTO and paid family leave.
  • Professional development stipend for conferences, certifications, and advanced training.
  • Hybrid work model with modern office in Seattle and remote flexibility.
