Position Overview

OCI Network Availability is seeking a Software Development Senior Manager to lead a high-impact Networking Reliability Engineering team focused on driving operational excellence across the OCI physical network. This "full-service" role spans hands-on collaboration with network engineers to build and sustain critical services and tooling, while partnering with cross-functional teams to simplify network management. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, balancing strategic leadership with tactical execution to ensure network reliability at global scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of software engineers and network reliability experts to design, develop, and maintain tooling for proactive network monitoring and incident response.
• Drive operational excellence by implementing automation, observability platforms, and self-healing systems for the OCI physical network infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with network engineers on day-to-day operations, troubleshooting complex issues, and optimizing network performance.
• Partner with product, platform, and customer-facing teams to define requirements and deliver intuitive tools for seamless network management.
• Set technical vision and roadmap for reliability engineering initiatives, aligning with OCI's global scale and growth objectives.
• Mentor and grow engineering talent through code reviews, technical guidance, and career development planning.
• Establish and enforce best practices for software development, testing, CI/CD pipelines, and production deployments.
• Analyze network telemetry data to identify trends, predict failures, and implement preventive measures.
• Champion cross-team initiatives to reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR) and improve overall network availability SLAs.
• Contribute hands-on to critical projects, including building services for network diagnostics and capacity planning.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in networking or infrastructure reliability engineering.
• 5+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams in high-stakes, on-call environments.
• Strong expertise in networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS), hardware (routers, switches), and physical layer technologies.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or Java for building scalable tools and services.
• Demonstrated experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana), monitoring systems, and automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform).
• Proven track record of delivering reliable systems at cloud-scale, with deep knowledge of SRE principles.
• Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders and articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with OCI, AWS, Azure, or other major cloud providers' networking services.
• Familiarity with data center operations, fiber optics, and global network topologies.
• Background in machine learning for anomaly detection or predictive analytics in networking.
• Contributions to open-source networking or reliability projects.
• Advanced certifications such as CCIE, CCDE, or equivalent.
