Position Overview

As a Software Product & Cloud Architect at Oracle, you will lead the architectural design, requirements definition, and deployment patterns for Oracle Sharded Database as a native cloud service. This role focuses on enabling seamless multi-region and multi-cloud deployments, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance for global enterprise customers. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and cloud operations teams to deliver resilient, production-grade sharding solutions that redefine distributed database capabilities in the cloud.

Key Responsibilities

• Design comprehensive architecture for Oracle Sharded Database deployment across multiple cloud regions and providers, optimizing for latency, resilience, and data sovereignty.
• Define technical requirements, APIs, and patterns for sharding, replication, and failover in multi-cloud environments.
• Develop reference architectures and deployment blueprints for customers adopting sharded databases in hybrid and multi-cloud setups.
• Collaborate with product managers to prioritize features that enhance sharding scalability, elasticity, and automation.
• Lead proof-of-concept implementations and performance benchmarking for sharded database workloads in cloud-native environments.
• Create documentation, whitepapers, and best practices for sharding patterns, including data partitioning strategies and workload distribution.
• Work with engineering teams to integrate sharding capabilities with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services like Autonomous Database and Kubernetes.
• Evaluate and recommend cloud providers, networking topologies, and security models for global sharded deployments.
• Drive innovation in sharding automation, self-healing, and AI-optimized query routing across distributed cloud footprints.
• Mentor junior architects and contribute to Oracle's cloud architecture community of practice.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in software architecture, with at least 5 years focused on distributed databases and cloud-native systems.
• Deep expertise in database sharding, partitioning, and distributed systems design (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, or NoSQL sharding).
• Proven experience architecting multi-region, multi-cloud deployments with high availability and disaster recovery.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms including OCI, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, with hands-on experience in IaaS, PaaS, and container orchestration.
• Proficiency in system design principles, microservices, Kubernetes, and networking (VPC, peering, CDN).
• Experience with database internals, query optimization, replication, and performance tuning in production environments.
• Excellent communication skills, with ability to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle Database certification (e.g., OCP, OCM) or equivalent experience with Oracle Sharded Database.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, including Autonomous Database and Exadata Cloud.
• Familiarity with AI/ML integration for database automation and predictive scaling in sharded environments.
• Experience leading architecture reviews, RFC processes, and open-source contributions in distributed systems.
• Background in financial services, telecom, or global enterprises requiring extreme-scale data distribution.
