Hardware Reliability Test Engineer

full-timePosted: Dec 29, 2025

Job Description

Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

We are looking for a Hardware Reliability Test Engineer to join our Oulu team. In this role, you will design and develop the next generation of automated test systems, tools, and data infrastructure for Oura’s hardware validation and reliability testing. You’ll build software that enables scalable, automated, and data-driven testing of our wearable devices -  and you’ll use those systems hands-on to run real hardware tests.

This is a hands-on engineering role that combines software development and hardware testing. You’ll work closely with hardware, firmware and testing teams to ensure every Oura product meets our high standards for quality and reliability.

Location: On-site in Oulu, Finland. The role includes frequent travel to other Oura sites and supplier locations.

What You will do:

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test systems and infrastructure for Oura’s hardware validation and reliability workflows.

  • Develop Python-based tools, frameworks, and APIs that enable automation, data collection, and analysis across test environments.

  • Use test automation hands-on to execute hardware reliability and performance tests, ensuring repeatability and data quality.

  • Perform failure analysis and root-cause investigations, leveraging software tools and data to identify and resolve issues efficiently.

  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and test teams to integrate automation capabilities throughout the product development lifecycle.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in designing maintainable and scalable software systems.

  • Experience with hardware-near programming and embedded systems, such as microcontrollers, sensor or RF interfacing, firmware communication, and hardware interfaces (e.g., serial, USB, BLE, I²C).

  • Solid understanding of Linux environments and open-source technologies (e.g., Docker) - comfortable with device communication, scripting, and debugging at the system level.

  • Practical, problem-solving mindset and ability to debug complex interactions between hardware, software, and automation infrastructure.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • 3–6 years of experience in hardware-near software development, validation, or test automation for consumer electronics, wearables, or other embedded systems.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative working style.

Preferred

  • Experience with wearable or portable consumer devices, particularly compact form factors with integrated electronics.

  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and external testing laboratories.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software, Electrical, Mechanical or Reliability Engineering, or a related field.

Benefits

At Oura, we care deeply about your well-being and development. Every team member has an Oura Ring of their own, and we’re dedicated to fostering health, growth, and balance.

What we offer:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Lunch benefit
  • Wellness benefit
  • Flexible working hours
  • Collaborative, smart teammates
  • An Oura ring of your own
  • Easy-to-reach offices in Oulu Teknologiakylä
