Role Overview

As an Outpatient Surgery Pharmacist with Cardinal Health in Gibson City, IL, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing medication management for same-day surgical patients. This full-time position, 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, 10AM to 6:30PM, focuses on pre-op medication reviews, sterile IV preparation for the operating room, collaboration with surgeons and nurses on dosing and selection, narcotic security, regulatory compliance, and patient education for post-operative care.   • Adjusting dosages based on established protocols, considering patient conditions and polypharmacy, while completing antimicrobial stewardship tasks.
  • Educating patients on proper medication use, expected effects, and discharge instructions, particularly for those starting new regimens or using multiple drugs.
  • Managing narcotics security, inventory control, compliance documentation, and audits of outdated medications where required.
  • Collaborating with nurses and physicians to clarify orders and gather necessary information.
  • Assisting the Pharmacy Director with accreditation maintenance, operational changes, and implementation of new systems or procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed in this role, you need:

  • A valid pharmacist license in good standing in Illinois, or willingness to obtain one promptly.
  • Preferred experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy or outpatient surgery settings.
  • IV compounding experience preferred, or willingness to gain certification.
  • Flexibility for various shifts if needed, strong communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small objects, computer proficiency with multiple pharmacy systems, and excellent customer service abilities.
  • May require vendor credentialing for hospital access.
