Activities Assistant (Part-Time)

Kern River Transitional Care Center
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Pay: Starting at $17.08 per hour
Schedule: Part-Time
Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)



General Purpose

The primary purpose of the Activities Assistant is to support the Activities Director in delivering a creative, engaging, and resident-centered activities program. This role ensures activities are provided in accordance with federal, state, local, and corporate regulations to meet the physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial needs and interests of each resident based on comprehensive assessments.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in planning and conducting individual, small group, and large group activities

  • Assist in developing and maintaining monthly activity calendars and attendance records

  • Encourage resident participation in group and self-initiated activities such as crafts, games, hobbies, reading, and social events

  • Provide appropriate materials and accommodations, including large-print, audio, or Braille materials when applicable

  • Assist with resident assessments, care plans, discharge planning, and quarterly progress notes as assigned

  • Coordinate resident outings and assist with transportation for activities, appointments, and discharges as needed

  • Support in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents

  • Participate in community planning related to resident interests and facility engagement

  • Assist the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee with action plans as requested by the Activities Director

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure Activities Department

  • Promote positive communication with residents, families, staff, community agencies, and visitors

  • Follow all safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies



Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities



Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • One (1) year of experience in a long-term care or healthcare setting preferred

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures and policy manuals

  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems

  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions

Certificates / Licenses

  • None required



Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, and pulling

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, or climbing

  • Frequent talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling

  • Visual requirements include close, distance, peripheral, color, and depth perception
